MIA COUTO

MIA COUTO was born in 1955 in Beira, Mozambique. He has worked as a journalist and professor and currently works as a biologist and writer, with more than thirty books published in both prose and poetry. His novel Terra Sonâmbula is considered one of the ten best African books of the 20th century. He has received several literary awards, including the Camões Prize (2013), the most prestigious award in the Portuguese language, and the Neustadt Prize (2014). He is a corresponding member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters. In 2024, he released his most recent book, A Cegueira do Rio, through Companhia das Letras, Brazil.
MANUELA PENAFRIA

Associate Professor at UBI – University of Beira Interior, where she primarily teaches Film Theory, Documentary Production, Filmmakers on Film, Arts Research, and Seminars on Programming and Cinephilia. She is a member of the editorial board of journals in Portugal and Brazil, as well as a member of the scientific committee of various national and international events. She also participates in organizing scientific and artistic meetings, particularly at UBI. She is part of the Advisory Board of AIM – Association of Moving Image Researchers, and also serves as coordinating member of the Working Group “Filmmakers on Film.” In partnership with a researcher from Brazil, she is co-editor of the journal DOC On-line, dedicated to documentary studies since 2006. She has served as a juror for institutions such as ICA – Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual; A3ES – Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education; FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology; and as a member of juries for public competitions for entry into academic careers at universities and polytechnic institutes. Her most recent publications include two Pedagogical Dossiers for the National Film Plan, a text in the DVD booklet of the film “Máscaras/Masks,” published by Cinemateca Portuguesa, and the co-edited book Filmmakers on Film – Global Perspectives, published by BFI/Bloomsbury.
